Elementary Schools
Cresthaven PTA Pres Leslie Ridgway says the Facilities Committee continues to support
the building of two new, separate schools in 2004/2005 to replace overcrowded
Cresthaven Elementary. The alternative is to construct one huge school - not favored by
the Cresthaven PTA or HCA. Your support is needed: tell the County Council and the
Board of Ed you support the two-school approach. To help or for info, email Leslie
Ridgway at Lesliekridgway@aol.com to obtain the email addresses for all the players in
local government.
Proposed Transit Center?
Would you like a 500 car parking structure or a bus transit hub in our community?
Montgomery County has hired a contractor who's now conducting a feasibility study to
consider the construction of one or both of these structures in the White Oak Shopping
Center between the Sears building and the garage space, according to community
member Mike Levin. The feasibility study is due soon to The Montgomery County
Department of Public Works and Transportation. Keep your eyes open for public
meetings on this topic and communicate your views.
Improved Golf Course Slated
How about a totally redesigned White Oak 9-hole public golf course…irrigated…a
lighted practice range…even a new clubhouse? That's the $2 million plan on tap by the
County's Park and Planning Commission.
FDA Consolidation Project
The Food and Drug Administration, is now moving forward with a 6-phase consolidation
project at the White Oak Federal Research Center. When completed, the historical front
building will be preserved, and the other two buildings will be demised with new
construction to follow. The project may bring an influx of folks to our community,
leading to property value increases and a boost for local business. Besides, who wants a
700-acre chunk of vacant property, ripe for a new subdivision?
